Figure Painting Updated

I’ve updated the Figure Painting section with finished versions of three portraits. This series is taking longer than I expected, mostly because it’s time consuming to finish of all of the tiny little details in these portraits. But I’m glad that I’m sticking with it, because I really am very pleased with the results.

Christmas Eve

Well, it’s been awhile since my last update. There’s a couple reasons for this. First of all, I’ve been very busy. Secondly, I didn’t want to post another unfinished portrait, so I made sure to finish this one first! Of course, now that I look at on the computer screen there are a couple minor tweaks I’d like to make, specifically the left cheek and eyebrow, but I’d say that this piece is 99% done. It’s a portrait of my friend Sarah.

I’ve also added two weeks worth of figure drawings to the Figure Drawings section. Sessions have been suspended until January due to the holiday, so I’ll have to think of another way to get a little practice in. Until next time!

Back in the Saddle Again

Okay! Another week, another portrait. I’d like to start churning these out just a little bit faster than I am right now. That’s my goal for the moment. If I could have six more portraits finished by the end of December, I would be very pleased. This one (of my dear mother) isn’t quite finished. I still have to rework the hair, and do some other minor touch-ups. As usual, I’m also adding some drawings to the Figure Drawings section.dsc_0327_1

Minor Disappointment

I’m a little bit disappointed with the art that I produced this week. I’ve added three pieces to the Figure Drawing section, and I’m also going to post a picture of the portrait I’m painting of my friend Alex. It’s not finished, so I won’t add it to the Figure Paintings section, but I wanted to post something.

This week is Thanksgiving, so my next update should be on Friday, December 2nd.

New Portrait and New Figure Drawings

I painted a portrait of my friend Nick this week. I’m mostly satisfied with how it came out. Frankly, I think I made his eye too small. I’ll probably go back and fix it at some point. More than the final product, though, I’m very pleased with how much experience I’ve gained from the process. The portraits that I started this week are proceeding much more smoothly, probably because I’m accustomed to the process now, having struggled here. One of the big differences has to do with the size I’m working at. In the past, I’ve often worked at life size or slightly smaller, so it’s a little tough to paint heads that are bigger than they would be in reality. This one is 24x 30″, oil on canvas.

There are some new figure drawings, too, in the figure drawings section.

Self Portrait and New Figure Drawings II

I painted another self portrait last week, so here it is. Oil on canvas, 22 x 26″. I’m going to put it in the new “Figure Painting” section. Also, I’ve added some new images to the Figure Drawing section.dsc_0332

Self Portrait and New Figure Drawings

I painted a self portrait last week, so here it is. Acrylic on board, 11 x 14″. I’m going to put it in a new “Figure Painting” section. Also, I’ve added some new images to the Figure Drawing section.
